Some more first steps...

You may have noticed that www.whitehouse.gov changed dramatically on 12:01pm on the 20th. The stated mission: Increased government transparency and accountability. I thought this transcript of the President's address to his senior staff and cabinet was also very interesting and encouraging. The executive orders he mentions in the address are readily available. Really just words and ideas still... but words and ideas I approve of.

Fetal Position

Here's the first picture I took on my new camera. (You can click on it to make it larger.) Ollie has taken to sleeping in a new and heretofore unused 'kitty bed' that I got for Izzy when she was a kitten. She didn't really use it at all, but now he sleeps there almost exclusively, if I'm on the same floor of the house as the bed.

Cats are funny that way, I've learned. They change where they 'hang out' or sleep depending on season, house temperatures, mood, availability, smell, where their human is, and probably a host of other things. Those kitties. They are almost never apart from where I am when I'm home. :) I love that.

Now, as you can plainly see, Oliver BARELY FITS into this enclosure and only if he tightly curls, which he seems to love to do. The first time I found him in there, it looked so much like pictures of unborn infants in the womb, I did a double-take.

There is just something about that position that I suppose sticks with us forever and brings a feeling of safety, comfort and warmth. I know I get like that on a chilly night when I turn out the light and get ready to go to sleep in a COLD bed. I know I wrap my arms around me, my wrists bent in, legs up tight and everything aiming INWARD, toward the heart/core I would guess. Sort of back to the beginning...

Squeek...

Hello. Anyone out there? Just checking. :) I'm not sure if anyone is checking or reading this blog. I posted something on the weekend but no comments or feedback so I took it off. Maybe no one has anything to say just now, eh?

New Camera

Hi everyone. I figured out how to add an image to a post! How about that?

I promise I won't often veer off the topics you put in the subtitle, Abe, but thought I'd tell whoever from the family that visits here, that my new Fujifilm FinePix J50 came in the mail yesterday. I'm not sure how long it sat on the porch in the cold, but I let it 'thaw' out for a few hours and then charged the battery overnight and tried it out quickly early this morning. It looks like it's going to be WONDERFUL. I'll read the booklet after I accomplish my assigned task for today which is to deal with this workroom/office upstairs. I'm not sure who all saw this room over the holidays, but as you may already know, I've let this space get totally out of control and it's time to deal with it. So far I've uncovered: something that was to be in Heather's gift ( errata for a knitting book I got her ), a holiday card that never got opened, and a bill from Target card that is now overdue. Heaven knows what else I'll find. Jeepers. So, to that effort I now return.

First Try

Okay, Abe helped talk me through this and while we were not able to figure out how to make it so I could 'comment' on a previous post, it seems I am able to actually POST.

This is fun. I've wondered for a couple years now how those men and women who have knitting blogs do it ( Yes there are men. See: http://brooklyntweed.blogspot.com/). Now I see how they do it. Maybe I'll even figure out how to post photos. Will they be about religion or economics...hmm.... most likely not. I did manage to upload a photo for my profile, though.

Thanks for setting this up, Abram. :)

Hello Family!

I said I'd set up a blog for us, and by golly... here it is. I'll replace this generic template with something more interesting later, but at least this gets us up and running.

Let the discussions begin! er... continue!
